Triads

I created this series of A6 ink and watercolor illustrations with the goal of re-familiarizing myself with analog tools and experimenting with unexpected color palettes. The small format allowed me to draw quickly and without stress, and thus create more freely.

I began each painting by selecting three colors: a yellow-ish, a red-ish, and a blue-ish. I then created a mixing chart by painting swatches that gradated between each of the colors. Upon seeing the full range of colors available to me, I proceeded to illustrate whatever image the palette evoked in my mind. Some of the resulting illustrations are successful, others are not, but they all taught me something new about the paints in my palette.
